It’s Tuesday, not Monday. But you get the gist.
My oldest is home this week for Spring Break, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I love when she’s home. I’m not one of those parents that quickly tires of their kids when they’re home during break.
When E started school a few years ago, I missed her presence around the house. The clutter of papers and markers and scraps she leaves on the table when she’s working on her art. The thousand questions she asks during the day. The way she’d come and lay on my back whenever I was on the couch or bed.
I miss all of it when she’s away at school. And I’m already feeling anxious about losing that with my little man in a year or so when he starts school, himself.
So this week we’re carving out time to rest. Get some bowling in. Catch a movie downtown. Hit up the parks.

Of course, I’m still getting to me desk this week. Here’s what I’ve got going on.
I’ve been working on a draft of a short story I actually started a couple years ago but never finished. It’s changed quite a bit, but I like the direction it’s headed.
I’m editing a short story I wrote earlier this year but haven’t submitted yet. I had a friend, an amazing writer, give it a read and she gave me a lot to chew on.
I’m reading a manuscript-in-progress from a friend I met at Kenyon last summer sent me. We were in the same cohort and her work is incredible. Really can’t wait to dig into more of her work. Such an honor to be asked to provide feedback on someone’s book, especially when it’s not finished yet and they’re looking for feedback and direction.
That should be plenty for this week.
Oh, real quick!
I wanna say thank you.
Thanks for reading, and thanks to those of you leaving comments and sharing with others on social media.
I’m challenging myself to write more here on Substack without expectation or reservation. For now, I’m focused on Monday Morning posts like this with a little peak at what I’m working on AND and end of week post (hopefully Fridays) where I share a few things that kept me inspired.
Hopefully I might start writing more, but this feels good for now. But what do you think? Hit this little old button below and let me know if you’ve liked these posts, or if you’d be interested in more (or less) of something.
Paul- Thanks for sharing this. I particularly love it when you said: "I’m not one of those parents that quickly tires of their kids when they’re home during break." I think this is likely a testament that you built a solid relationship with them in the earlier years. Did you feel like there were certain things you did/didn't do in the earlier years that bore fruit in this way? :)
It's so helpful to see friends write something that is "enough" here on Substack. I believe it is slowly helping me move out of perfectionism and fear around my own Substack. So thanks. :)
