Hi friends,
A bit of a wild week over here. I got word in early March that I’d been accepted into Bennington College’s renowned MFA program. A few days later, the Kenyon Review once more invited me to be one of only ten fiction writer’s to work with the GOAT - Mitchell S. Jackson - during their esteemed Writers Workshop.
Wild.
Acceptances are few and far between when you’re a writer. So two major acceptances in one week is just crazy. I still haven’t really grappled with all this news or the inevitable change. One day at a time, Paul. One day at a time.
Anyway - here’s the list.
I haven’t read any of Brainard’s work, I’m afraid. But I came across this poem and loved it. I’ll be stoping by my local used bookstore to pick up some of his work soon.
My aunt sent me this video a couple months back and I just got around to watching it. Back in the 70s, my aunt moved from Michigan to San Francisco. She built a really beautiful life and community. At some point, she bought a house in Sea Ranch, a community renown for its architecture. Not sure there’s anything quite like it.
Snuck outta the house on Tuesday after the kids were asleep and went to my absolute favorite reading spot.
I just learned that the White House [yeah, that one] has a wood shop in the basement. In trying to find out more about it, I happened across this fascinating piece about the craftsmanship that took place in the 1950s.
Because I still can’t get over the fact that occasionally an email lands in your inbox with news that a 16 year-long dream is coming true. Just wild.
Congratulations 🎊 Paul! Keep the BOOM BOOM PAP spirit alive💐
